The history of the
Golden Gate Brass is a tradition of thirty years
of making exciting music and entertaining audiences throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
The music began in 1977 with an informal concert on a street in downtown San Francisco, five brass
players performing Christmas carols and seeing the first five-dollar tip being dropped
into the trumpet case.
A number of people participated in the ensemble during the early years,
but since 1984 the group has been performing before audiences and delighting those audiences with the same
roster of well-known and highly skilled Bay Area musicians.
The members of the Golden Gate Brass
are drawn from the
San Francisco Opera, the
Oakland East Bay Symphony, and the
Marin Symphony;
and reside in locations all around the Bay Area -
Berkeley, San Francisco, Larkspur, Oakland, Lafayette.
This group of players creates musical experiences suitable for all
age groups, combining exquisite technical command of their instruments
with an engaging and lighthearted approach to music and theater.
We invite you to find out about our history of making music together,
